Politicians mull bill to ban Goans from casinos

A bill was presented that seeks to prohibit local people from gambling in the casinos in the state.

The Leader of Opposition,Manohar Parrikar has introduced a bill in the Goa Legislative Assembly,which seeks to prohibit local people from gambling in the casinos in the state.

The Goa Public Gambling (Amendment) Bill,2011,imposes restrictions on entry into the casinos.

“Only non-residents shall be allowed to enter the Casinos for the purpose of Gambling,” the bill reads.

Parrikar has also proposed to ban advertisements of casinos. “No advertisements of casinos anywhere in the State in the print media,electronic media or by any other audio and visual means shall be allowed,” the bill says.

“It is found that number of residents of Goa including those below the age of 21 years are frequently visiting Casinos to play games which are destroying the social fabric of the state,” Parrikar has said in the bill.

Casino advertisements lure the locals,specially the youth,bill says.
