Yellowgate police have decided to x-ray all goats found on MSV Yusufi, intercepted by Coast Guard 15 km southwest of Colaba,to make sure there are no micro chips jeopardising national security.

The vessel from Dubai, suspected to be carrying a Thuraya satellite phone, was intercepted Wednesday midnight. Coast Guard found 26 goats, sealed communication equipment, two TVs,cigarette cases and an Apple iPad on it. The five-member crew told police they dumped the satellite phone mid-sea.

Pandurang Dhoke, senior inspector, said Friday two dead goats were also found on the vessel. “We have left a cook on board to take care of the goats,” he said. Police have written to BMC to keep the goats in the animal department and check if they are infected.“Generally, any animal or plant that comes to Mumbai from outside is kept with BMC for eight days to see if they are infected. After this,we will conduct x-rays to check if they are a threat to national security,” said Dhoke. Meanwhile, police are looking for one Usman for whom the vessel brought some “goods”.

The crew comprising Ahmed Aadam Paleja (45),Iqbal Hasan Umi (41),Yakub Abubakar Thakra (43),Abdul Razzak Usmar Mandwani (32) and Yunus Aasam Bolim (30),all from Bhuj in Gujarat, have been remanded in police custody for five days.
