Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he has lost a “marg darshak” with the demise of former president A P J Abdul Kalam, whom he hailed as “a wonderful president and an inspiring individual”.
India mourns the loss of a great scientist, a wonderful President & above all an inspiring individual. RIP Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
“He was a great scientist who contributed immensely in the field of science and technology as well as space. I have lost a marg darshark,” Modi said. “He was a source of inspiration for the whole country, particularly the youth. Even in his last days, he remained connected,” he added.
In another message, the Prime Minister said: “India mourns the loss of a great scientist, a wonderful President and above all an inspiring individual… my mind is filled with so many memories, so many interactions with him. Always marvelled at his intellect, learnt so much from him,” he said.
The death of Dr. Kalam is an irreparable loss to this nation. He has left a big void hard to fill. I deeply mourn his death. RIP Kalam Sahab
“Kalam enjoyed being with people; people and youngsters adored him. He loved students and spent his final moments among them”, Modi tweeted.
Senior BJP leader L K Advani said the sudden demise left him in a state of shock and sorrow. “He served Mother India literally until the last breath of his life. He was truly a karma yogi par excellence,” Advani said.
He said that he has always regarded Kalam as the best exemplar of the Idea of India, one who embodied the best of all the cultural and spiritual traditions that signify India’s unity.
“This was most strikingly evident in the last book he wrote, presciently titled Transcendence: My Spiritual Experiences with Pramukh Swami,” he said.
