PIL in Supreme Court over Katju controversy

The petition has sought probe against the then PM Manmohan Singh and former Law Minister Hansraj Bhardwaj.

A PIL was filed on Thursday in the Supreme Court alleging that UPA government had kept the then President in the dark regarding negative IB report against a Madras High Court judge who was allowed to continue on his post.

The petition was mentioned before a bench headed by Justice H L Dattu which said the matter would be taken up in due course. The petition has sought probe against the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Law Minister Hansraj Bhardwaj.

In his petition, advocate M L Sharma alleged that the “Council of Ministers including the then law minister and prime minister, despite having negative IB report, concealed true facts and advised the President of India for the appointment of a justice which is a serious corruption case”.

“Final decision was taken by the then President without knowing all true facts on record as was it was not placed by the Council of Ministers before the President. It is a fraud upon constitutional office and general public what has been done for vested interest by the Council of Ministers,” the petition said.
