Pakistan boat row: Navy rubbishes media reports, says Coast Guard had kept it in loop

The statement came amid reports that Navy did not react to the intelligence generated by the NTRO.

The Indian Navy on Tuesday said it was “kept in the information loop throughout” the Pakistani boat episode that unveiled on the night of December 31 and that it responded appropriately along with Coast Guard. Breaking its prolonged silence on the matter, the Navy, in an official statement said it is the “nodal agency for overall maritime security of the nation” and that “Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard have responded appropriately to the situation as per the standard operating procedures.”

“Indian Navy denies reports in some sections of the media saying that it had not reacted to the intelligence provided by NTRO. It is clarified that the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) have responded appropriately to the situation as per the standard operating procedures. Indian Navy as the nodal agency for the overall maritime security of the nation was kept in the information loop throughout,” the official statement said.

The Navy came under severe criticism for its reported inaction over information regarding a Pakistani boat, which was passed on by NTRO on real-time basis on December 31.
