Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is suddenly among celebrated twitterati. Prabhu, who had just over 100 followers till Sunday afternoon, now has more than 10,000 followers on Twitter, including the PM and the President. Prabhu also started “trending” on Twitter around Sunday evening and continued to be talked about all of Monday much more than any of his other Cabinet colleagues. All this he has managed with only four tweets so far, three of which were tweeted Sunday.
RESURRECTING INDIRA
An amusing SMS invitation was sent out by the Delhi Congress for an event to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru. It invited the media to the function at Talkatora Stadium Thursday to be addressed by “Congress president Indira Gandhi” and vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Red-faced, the party said it was a new hand at the DPCC media department who had resurrected Indira. However, another DPCC leader wondered, whether old or new, how could a Congressman confuse Sonia with her mother-in-law Indira.
PROTOCOL BREACH
The Congress seems to be cut up with the government for more reasons than one. The latest grouse is regarding Manmohan Singh. Party sources said a doctor did not accompany Singh when the former Prime Minister travelled to Japan last week to receive that country’s highest honour. Although Singh’s office did not ask for a doctor to travel with him, party sources, citing protocol, said it was expected that the government would send one. Singh is a diabetic and had a bypass surgery some years ago. While Singh has no complaints, sources said a senior Congress leader has raised the issue with a top minister.
KEEPING IT LEAN
In line with his previous foreign visits, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again chosen to take a lean delegation for his ongoing three-nation tour. While the “official delegation” has just 15 members, the “accompanying delegation” has 19 members in it. As many as 17 personnel are part of the PM’s security detail while another nine fall in the “protocol, press and others” category.
