GMR-led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) today claimed there was no security threat from the upcoming hospitality district at the IGI Airport and fool-proof security arrangements were already in place as per the laid down norms. Maintaining that there was 'a highly secure' perimeter wall covering all operational areas of the airport,a DIAL statement said it was 'effectively guarded' by the CISF and it was not possible for any unauthorised person to gain access to runways or operational areas. The statement came in the wake of reports of security inadequacies in and around the Delhi airport, where construction activities were on in full swing to create a hospitality district comprising hotels and shopping malls. Noting that the hotels were being constructed as per the duly-approved Master Plan, the DIAL said that the runway was at a safe distance of more than 450 metres and that all structures of the hospitality area would have full component of security. Regarding a religious place which falls within the airport area,it said controlled access was permitted for pilgrims to visit the Peer Baba shrine every Thursday by the CISF after thorough frisking and checking. It also claimed that it has spared no effort in providing the state-of-the-art security technology, equipment and infrastructure ensuring the highest level of security. Referring to fresh security guidelines issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and CISF to all airport operators,DIAL said it would implement these measures by December 31 deadline.
