Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday unofficially met Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama briefly at the State Guest House here.
“Though there was no official programme,Chief Minister met the Dalai Lama this morning. They had a meeting for about 30 minutes,” sources said.
Earlier reports said the chief minister did not meet the Dalai Lama.
There was no official programme and he refrained from going to the airport to see the Dalai Lama,officials said.
Apart from Naveen Patnaik,State Tourism and Culture Minister Debi Prasad Mishra and a host of senior bureaucrats received the Dalai Lama at the airport here on January 11,before he left for Chandragiri in Gajapati district.
The leaders and ministers met the Dalai Lama last evening after he arrived here. The ministers who met the Buddhist monk include Mishra,Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena,Deputy Chairperson of State Planning Board S N Nayak and assembly speaker Pradip Kumar Amat.
Meanwhile,BJP criticised the state government for not according state guest status to the spiritual leader.
