The Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Friday described the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif as an “unfortunate” event. The Shiv Sena has been repeatedly targeting the prime minister on his foreign policies or domestic issues through it's in-house newspaper Saamna or through public forum. Keeping up the anti-Modi tempers, Thackeray speaking to the media said, “The situation between the two countries has not changed at the grounds. The meeting between the two is an unfortunate event.” Video Loading. The Sena leader pointed to the recent incident of fire at the Indo-Pak border that lead to the death of one Indian soldier. While maintaining that Modi has the ability to change the situation and enjoys people's faith, he said, “I wonder whether the government has learned anything from the past. India must teach Pakistan a lesson.” In a sarcastic comment against BJP president Amit Shah's call to contest elections alone, Thackeray said, “It is for the BJP to decide whether it wants a single-party government like Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and Rajasthan?” On Thursday, addressing the BJP workers Shah had said, “The party should work for expansion to ensure its hold from panchayat to parliament.” The BJP local leaders have been vocal in stating they should prepare for contesting all the local bodies' elections alone without alliance partner Sena. The BMC elections in Mumbai will take place in 2017. Commenting on the development, Thackeray said, “I gather from media reports that they are trying to contest polls single-handed. My question is does he (Amit Shah) want the party leaders to work like Vasundhara Raje, Raman Singh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan?”
