Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Tuesday lashed out at his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi saying since the BJP leader suffered a loss of face in the Lok Sabha elections, his party did not even bother to invite him for campaigning in the Assembly elections in Maharashtra.
Addressing an election meeting in Nashik in the presence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi,Chavan said 6,000 people commit suicide in Gujarat every year out of which 600 are farmers.
However, police do not take cognisance of the farmer suicides. They are registered as accidental deaths. Modi who toured Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections has been thoroughly exposed now and hence BJP did not even bother to bring him to campaign for the Assembly elections, Chavan alleged.
He said Maharashtra has taken serious note of farmers suicides and taken adequate measures to ease their hardships.
