Man kills pregnant wife for clipping his nails too deep

A man allegedly abused,assaulted and then set his pregnant wife on fire after she accidentally cut too deep while clipping his nails,in Jakopur village under Lohian police station of Jalandhar district.

A man allegedly abused,assaulted and then set his pregnant wife on fire after she accidentally cut too deep while clipping his nails,in Jakopur village under Lohian police station of Jalandhar district. While the incident occurred on Monday,the woman passed away on Thursday night but not before recording her statement before a Magistrate. The man has been arrested.

Police said Palwinder Kaur,who had married Gurmej Singh of Jakopur six months ago,was clipping his nails on Monday when she accidentally cut into his skin. An enraged Gurmej allegedly used abusive language before slapping and thrashing her.

Palwinder,according to police,then called her brothers – Baljinder and Harvinder – and narrated the incident. After receiving the phone call,the brothers rushed to Lohian from Amritsar but found their sister lying on a charpoy in a semi-burnt condition. They took her to the Lohian civil hospital from where she was referred to a private hospital in Jalandhar. She died late on Thursday night.

DSP (Shahkot) Harpreet Singh Benipal said the victim,in her statement to the magistrate,accused her husband of setting her afire while her mother-in-law came to her rescue. Her brothers told police that Gurmej Singh got angry with her just after she cut his nail a bit deep, the DSP added.

The victims brothers told The Indian Express that Gurmej used to torture their sister for more dowry.
