Lalit Modi tried to favour Videocon, Adani: Congress

Former Union Minister Kapil Sibal alleged that Lalit Modi had tried to help two industrialists, including one from Gujarat, in getting an IPL franchise.

The Congress on Monday alleged that former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi had sought to grant favours to a Gujarat-based industrialist when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief minister of the state as well as president of the state cricket association.

Former Union Minister Kapil Sibal alleged that Lalit Modi had tried to help two industrialists, including one from Gujarat, in getting an IPL franchise. He said this happened when Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah were president and vice president of the Gujarat Cricket Association respectively.

Sibal alleged that Lalit Modi had rigged the tender conditions to favour the industrialists, and that an inquiry committee under senior BJP leader and now Union Minister Arun Jaitley had held that his objective was to “restrict the number of bidders to favour Videocon and Adani groups”.
