Kite festival creates riot of colours in Kolkata sky

A kite flying competition was organised by the state tourism department.

Ushering in the Durga Puja festivities on the occasion of Mahalaya,hundreds of kite flyers today created a riot of colours in the sky during the second edition of the International Kite Festival here.

Organised by the state tourism department at the Brigade Parade ground,a kite flying competition was held and the best ones awarded.

Besides skilled kite flyers,hundreds of locals thronged to the open ground to witness the kites of various hues,shapes and sizes overwhelming the serene blue sky.

A display of international kites was also organised at the venue.

State Tourism Minister Rachpal Singh said it was part of the tourism festival being organised to attract tourists to the city during the Durga Puja which starts this weekend.

Special cruises will begin from tomorrow to give visitors a riverside view of the city from the Botanical Gardens to the famed Dakshineshwar Kali temple.

During the puja,buses will also take tourists to different pandals across the city.
