There was chaos at the district court premises in Jalandhar on Wednesday when relatives of around 80 drug peddlers, who were arrested recently, tried to stop the bus that was carrying the accused from Kapurthala Jail to the court complex. Police had to be called in to control the situation. The relatives, who laid down in front of the bus while protesting against the alleged high handedness of the police, claimed that the accused had been framed in false cases. They also demanded that the accused be released and cases against them cancelled. The situation was brought under control after over half-an-hour when ACP Naresh Dogra assured the relatives that he will look into their allegations. Following the recent murder of ASI Gurdev Singh by alleged drug peddlers,Jalandhar commissionerate police had arrested over 300 drug peddlers and recovered huge amount of drugs from them. Ever since, these peddlers had been been lodged in Kapurthala jail and on Wednesday, they had a court hearing. Many among these peddlers have several cases pending against them.
