Congress MLA Jagmohan Kang in a letter written to Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha has raised objection to a part of the address of Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil to the House.
Kang stated that para 11 of the speech makes mention of the victory of Shiromani Akali Dal in the elections of SGPC and DSGMC. It states,These victories confirmed the view that people of all communities fully back them in the ideals that they pursue.
Kang, while expressing objection to this stated that elections of SGPC and DSGMC are for the administration of Sikh shrines and Sikh institutions being running under them. The voters in these elections are only Sikhs. The mention of winning of gurdawara committee elections,in the governors address clearly shows admission of Government of Punjabs interference in the religious affairs of the community.
Kang further stated that the very mention of the elections, applauding the government of Punjab is absolutely unwarranted, inappropriate and deplorable. Kang has demanded that the paragraph be expunged.
