J&K police receive 30,000 calls, messages in two days

The J&K police had received around 30,000 calls and messages from various places in the last two days. Most of the callers were trying to find out updates about the flood and danger level in the river Jehlum and streams.

Police has established the Special Control Room in the PCR to help people in situations arising due to bad weather.

“We have received around 30,000 calls and WhatsApp messages as well as pictures,” Police spokesman said.

He said a team of officers had been dedicated to man this helpline which provides information to the callers and also receives calls meant for getting help.

Meanwhile the J&K Police has deployed its men and officers for patrolling on the Jehlum banks in at Pantha Chowk, Ram Munshi Bagh, Rajbagh, Kothibagh, M.R. Gunj, Safakadal and Parimpora.

“These officers and policemen are keeping vigil on the water levels and were deputed to take measures in case of any breach in their respective jurisdictions,” he said.

As the Metrological department has warned about fresh spell of rains in the Valley, the state government has already prepared evacuation plans for Srinagar.

“The tubes, ropes, trucks and other necessary equipments have been provided to the police stations for effective evacuations in case of any exigency,” SSP city Amit Kumar said.

He said that the boats have been placed at the disposal of the Police Stations of the west and south zones. “In collaboration with locals sand bags have been placed at the possible breaches at Kursoo Rajbagh, Pandrethan, Shivpora, Gundbal, Nowgam, Hamdania Colony Bemina,” he said adding that the pumps available with the police have been put to work for dewatering.
