The JD(U) Friday suspended its Islampur (Nalanda) MLA Rajiv Ranjan from party for six years for taking on former CM Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad. Ranjan, however, will remain an MLA.
Confirming this to The Indian Express, JD(U) national spokesperson K C Tyagi said: “The state unit had recommended to party president Sharad Yadav to suspend Rajiv Ranjan for attacking party leadership. He has been suspended for six years. If the party thinks that he is still engaging in anti-party activities, the chief whip may approach the Assembly Speaker for termination of his membership.”
Ranjan, once close to Kumar, had last week launched an attack against the tie-up between Kumar and Prasad. He had said the state government “should change the right to public service Act to right to bribe Act because there is a fixed commission for every development project in Bihar.” Targeting the RJD chief, the Islampur MLA had said the JD(U) had aligned with “propagator of jungle raj”.
