Jammu and Kashmir encounter: Two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants killed in Sopore

In past three days, the security forces have killed eight militants in three separate operations.

As the police and the Army have intensified operations against militants in the valley, two more militants were killed in Sopore Sunday morning.

In past three days, the security forces have killed eight militants in three separate operations in north and south Kashmir.

The operations against the militants have intensified after the Assembly elections.

On Sunday, an encounter broke out between militants and a joint team of the police and the Army at Saidpora village on the outskirts of Sopore town.

Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were killed in the encounter.

The police said after a tip-off about the presence of the militants, a joint team of the J-K Police and the Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) cordoned off Saidpora village late Saturday night.

On Sunday morning, as the team started search operations and zeroed in on the target house, the  militants holed up inside opened fire resulting in a gun battle that ended with the killing of both the militants.

The police say the killed militants included a LeT group commander, Assadullah, who had infiltrated into the valley last year.

The other militant has been identified as Mohammad Ramzan. The police said Ramzan was earlier associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and was inducted into LeT by Assadullah recently.

The police said both the militants belonged to Pakistan.
