Taking voters’ awareness campaign to a new height, young IAS officer Tejaswi Naik last week flew a powered paraglider and airdropped pamphlets urging people, especially the young voters, to exercise their franchise in Anupppur district of Madhya Pradesh.
Posted as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Anuppur district panchayat, he flew over the town for 20 minutes and dropped pamphlets of the Election Commission of India at four different places in Amarkantak in a bid to spread awareness by arousing the curiosity of people.
The paramotor was aimed at promoting adventure tourism in Anuppur, but the 2009 batch officer combined the activity with the Election Commission’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.
Sacked in haste: Ex-AAP leader Aruna

Four days after she was sacked from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allegedly demanding money in lieu of giving party tickets for Lok Sabha elections, Aruna Singh Monday said the decision against her was taken in haste and the party didn’t give her a chance to clarify her position.
Singh was AAP Awadh zone convenor before she was expelled by party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal Friday.
“I wasn’t given any notice. I was on my way to Varanasi when a media-person asked me for a reaction on my expulsion,” Singh said in a press conference Monday.
She said the expulsion came as a shock. She claimed that in the alleged sting carried out by a news channel. “nowhere does it prove that I was exchanging money (in lieu of a ticket)”. “If there is any other CD or any such evidence, I demand it and will put forth my view on it,” Singh said.
