A Vigilance Court in Thrissur on Wednesday ordered that a preliminary probe should be held against DGP (law and order) K S Balasubramaniam, who had allegedly tried to sabotage the probe into controversial Hummer case.
Accused Muhammed Nisham had fatally knocked down a security guard with his Hummer SUV.
Acting upon a public interest litigation filed by Biju Kochu Paul of Thrissur, the court asked State Vigilance Chief Vinson M Paul to probe into the allegation. Apart from Balasubramaniam, a few other officials, including former Thrissur city police Commissioner Jacob Job, would also come under the gamut of the probe.
The petitioner pointed out Government chief whip P C George had revealed a recorded conversion between Jacob Job and former DGP M N Krishnamurthi, in which the latter indicated that Balasubramaniam had personal interest in the case. Job had told Krishnamurthi that he was helpless as the case had turned sensitive with media attention. The conversation had raised several questions about the role of the senior police officers in the ongoing probe into the hummer horror.

The petitioner wanted that Krishnamurthi should be made a witness in the case. The court granted three months time for the Vigilance to complete the probe.
