The government today came under attack in Lok Sabha for providing financial assistance to private Sanskriti School which had no obligation to provide quota for scheduled caste and backward students.
HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, however, said that in the recent past financial assistance has not been given by this ministry to any private unaided school except for Rs five crore as one-time grant for construction of the building of Sanskriti School here.
Sanskriti School’s primary objective is to provide sound and liberal education primarily to children of transferable officers of the All India and Group-A services, the minister said adding there is no reservation in the school in admission and the government was not meeting recurring expenses.
To a supplementary,Sibal said the school has adopted a slum area next to it and specially qualified teachers have been employed for 60 challenged students.
Sharad Yadav (JD-U) alleged that quality education has gone into private hands,a charge contested by Sibal who said there were only seven per cent private education institutions and 93 per cent were in the hands of government.
He also said the government has earmarked Rs 1.71 lakh crore for elementary education and more efforts are being made to impart quality education to all children.
On the pattern of admission in the Sanskriti School, the Minister said 60 per cent admissions are for the wards of the Civil Service/Defence and allied services. The general public has 20 per cent seats followed by 15 per cent for the wards of economically weaker section and five per cent for the wards of staff.
“The affairs of the Sanskriti School are looked after by a managing committee which has, inter alia, representatives from the Central government and the Education Department of the Government of the NCT of Delhi,” he said.
