Assam CM Tarun Gogoi on Sunday expressed resentment over exclusion of CMs of Northeastern states from PM Narendra Modi’s entourage for the Bangladesh visit.
“The exclusion of chief ministers of the Northeastern region from the PM’s visit to Bangladesh is contrary to the spirit of cooperative federalism. The action implied as if the Northeastern states, that share international boundary with Bangladesh, have no role to play in improving ties between the countries,” he said.

Gogoi, who accompanied former PM Manmohan Singh to Bangladesh in 2011, had last week said Modi had not asked him to be part of his delegation.
Four Northeastern states — Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura — share international boundary with Bangladesh. Gogoi had earlier asked Modi to take up the issue of illegal influx of Bangladesh nationals with his Dhaka counterpart, so that over 38,000 people declared as “infiltrators” by courts could be sent back.
Bangladesh declines to accept that its nationals have illegally entered Assam or India in large numbers. With no repatriation treaty in place, such persons continue to stay in India.
Flagging off the Guwahati-Dhaka bus service Saturday, Gogoi said it was time to look forward to a road link between India and China through the Northeast.
