Girls allege men entered hostel, go on rampage at Amritsar health institute

The protesting girls smashed the glass panes of institute director Dr B L Goyal’s car.

Alleging that men had intruded into their hostel, a group of girl students at Amritsar’s Vidyasagar Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences went on a rampage on Friday, slamming the authorities for poor security arrangement.

The protesting girls, who were doing one month general nursing and midwifery course at the institute, smashed the glass panes of institute director Dr B L Goyal’s car.

The girls, however, did not lodge any complaint with the police and left the institute for their college in Haryana, said Goyal, who later lodged a complaint with the police. “I reached the institute early in the morning after being informed about the alleged incident. I assured to look into the matter and told that if they had any security issues, security would be strengthened and CCTV cameras would be installed. Despite that, the students did all this,” said Goyal.

Police have registered a case under sections 452 (house-trespass for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 354 (assault on woman with an intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC against unknown persons.

Students from different institutes join the one-month course, said Goyal. “We are already taking more students than our capacity. I will now discontinue accepting more students,” he said.
