Gangster’s kin move HC for independent probe

Family members of gangster Sonu alias Kuldeep approached the Delhi HC seeking transfer of the investigation into the case to an independent agency.

Family members of gangster Sonu alias Kuldeep, who was admitted to AIIMS after he received bullet injuries in the Green Park Extension encounter, approached the Delhi High Court on Tuesday seeking transfer of the investigation into the case to an independent agency.

The family members also sought the court’s permission to meet their son in hospital. Issuing a notice to Delhi police,Justice G S Sistani asked the police to file their response by February 9.

Delhi Police counsel Rajat Katyal, who accepted the notice, submitted that police had not prevented Kuldeep’s family members from meet him in AIIMS.

The Counsel said the police were not responsible if the AIIMS administration had not allowed them to meet him. Filing a writ petition,Kuldeep’s father Yashwant Singh accused the police of not letting any of the family members to meet Sonu.

In the petition,he said “my son has been falsely implicated in the case. I don’t expect a fair investigation if the police will conduct the probe in the case.”

Therefore, the case may be transferred to an independent agency, his father said. Kuldeep, who was arrested after the encounter in south Delhi on Monday, allegedly provided “vital information” to the gang.

He allegedly belongs to the Sayta Prakash gang that had “two modules” of robbers which allegedly carried out a number of heists across North India.
