Kejriwal tells FTII students: Delhi govt will give you space to run classes

In a series of tweets, Kejriwal offered the protesting FTII students temporary space in Delhi to run their classes.

As the agitation over the removal of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Chairman Gajendra Chauhan intensifies, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has expressed his shock at the ongoing crisis. Reacting to the incident, Kejriwal tweeted, “Am shocked to hear whats gng on at FTII. An internationally reputed institute being systematically destroyed by govt’s wrong decisions.”

In a series of tweets, Kejriwal offered the protesting FTII students temporary space in Delhi to run their classes till the Centre agrees to their demands for the removal of Gajendra Chauhan as the institutes chairman.


Meanwhile, Pune Police on Wednesday arrested half a dozen students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) for allegedly forcibly confining institute Director Prashant Pathrabe to his office on Monday and for allegedly manhandling and threatening him.

Police have booked about 50 students of the institute charging them with seven different offences including one non-bailable offence. Pathrabe (47) registered the complaint with on Tuesday night. At about 12 am, a team of Deccan Police led by Senior Police Inspector Praveen Chougule reached the FTII hostel with an arrest warrant of 15 students including three girls.

The students were escorted out to the main gate of the institute with police completing the formalities at the office of Security Officer of the institute. Since over a hundred students had gathered at the main gate along with at least a dozen television cameras taking sound bytes of the students, it took police about one and a half hour to complete the formalities. Students roped in a lawyer who objected to police trying to arrest the female students post midnight.
