A fourth probe is being conducted into the death of former Haryana CM Hukam Singh who passed away three months ago. His family had alleged that Hukam Singh (89) was denied proper and timely medical aid by the doctors at Rohtak’s Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS).
While two of the three earlier probes, ordered by the state, has indicted two PGIMS doctors of medical negligence, state Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ram Niwas has ordered a ‘suo motu’ probe and appointed himself as the inquiry officer. He reached Rohtak’s PGIMS around 2 pm Tuesday.
In a letter dated May 8 (accessed by The Indian Express), Niwas had ordered eight doctors and the supporting staff of Rohtak PGIMS to remain at the institute’s campus today with all the relevant records. He had also ordered the complainant to be present.

Significantly, he had also summoned the two doctors indicted in the case, Rohtas K Yadav and Dr Dhruva Chaudhary to the campus. Both Yadav and Chaudhary are under suspension now.
However, Health Minister Anil Vij said, “I have learnt that Ram Niwas had gone to Rohtak for another probe into the death of Hukam Singh. He told me he was going to inquire into the role of the Medical Superindent of PGIMS. The last probe conducted by IAS officer RP Chander had asked the department to inquire into the role of Medical Superintendent Ashok Kumar Chauhan. Niwas told me he was going to check that.”
