Ex-SI gets four years RI in bribe case

A court has sentenced a former Delhi Police sub-inspector to four years imprisonment for demanding bribe.

A court has sentenced a former Delhi Police sub-inspector to four years imprisonment for demanding a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a man for releasing his bus involved in a road accident.

Special CBI Judge V K Maheshwari also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Parveen Kumar,then sub-inspector after holding him guilty under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

While awarding the punishment,the court said that those involved in corruption should be dealt with iron hands.

“It is sad but a bitter reality that corruption is corroding,like cancerous lymph nodes,the vital veins of the body politics,social fabric of efficiency in the public servant and demoralising the honest officers.

“The efficiency in public service would improve only when the public servant devotes his sincere attention and does the duty diligently,truthfully,honestly and devotes himself assiduously to the performance of the duties of his post,” the court said.

Kumar was apprehended by sleuths of the CBI in a trap while taking Rs 2,000 from Inderjit Singh Mann on June two,2000 as bribe to release his bus seized for being involved in a road accident.

He was posted at Narela Industrial Area police Station.
