DU lab assistant suicide case: Court asks police to record husband’s statement

The husband of Pavitra Bhardwaj,a lab assistant at a college in Delhi University who had committed suicide,moved the Delhi High Court complaining about police inaction in the case.

Justice Sunita Gupta directed the SHO to record statement of the husband and collect evidence from the university.

Pavitra,a former lab assistant at Bhim Rao Ambedkar College’s geography department,had alleged that she was sexually and mentally harassed by two colleagues.

The petition in the high court had alleged that college principal GK Arora had harassed her and made sexual advances. But the sexual harassment committee did not take any action.

Arora had rejected the charge. “There is no substance in these allegations and there are documents to prove this. The matter has been looked into by various committees.”

Pavitra’s husband Dharmendra,a head constable with Delhi Police,had earlier said his wife had approached everyone from the university administration to the offices of the Chief Minister,Lieutenant-Governor and the Human Rights Commission with her complaint.
