The Bombay High Court today asked the state government not to disturb the admissions granted by minority institutions for B Ed course,for the time being. Division bench led by Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar,however,made it clear that admissions would be subject to courts final decision. St Xaviers College and four other institutions have come to the court challenging states recent directive which said that B Ed seats in minority quota would be filled up by the government and not individually by colleges. In these institutions,50 per cent seats are reserved for respective minority community,and colleges themselves select candidates for these seats. But state directive seeks to change this system. Advocate Mihir Desai,appearing for colleges,argued that colleges fill the seats only on merit,on the basis of common entrance,and government had not power to interfere as far as admissions in minority quota were concerned. adjourned the hearing for four weeks,saying that admissions granted would not be disturbed,for now.
