After the CBI failed to file a chargesheet within the stipulated 60-day period, a Delhi court has granted bail to the three accused persons arrested by the CBI in connection with the case filed by the investigation agency alleging the procurement and transfer of classified government documents.
Special CBI Judge S C Rajan has granted bail to Ashok Kumar Singh, Khem Chand Gandhi and Lala Ram Sharma on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with one surety-like amount. In the present case, Ashok Kumar Singh, under secretary in the Department of Disinvestment in the Finance Ministry, Lala Ram Sharma, section officer in the Department of Economic Affairs and Khemchand Gandhi, a Chartered Accountant were arrested on March 12 by the CBI.

“The records indicate that accused Ashok Kumar Singh, Khem Chand Gandhi and Lala Ram Sharma were arrested on March 12, 2015 and produced in the court on March 13, 2015 and they have completed 60 days in JC (judicial custody)…In view of this, I extend the benefit of section 167(2) (ii) CrPC to accused Ashok Kumar Singh, Khem Chand Gandhi and Lala Ram Sharma, and they are admitted to bail,” the court said.
