A young man allegedly shot at his 22-year-old female friend before shooting himself dead in her rented accommodation in central Delhi this afternoon. Sanjay Aggarwal (26),an unemployed youth,had come to meet Uma Sharma at her flat in New Rajender Nagar with flowers this morning,a senior police official said. Uma,who hails from Mathura,was staying in the city for over a year and was not in the flat when Aggarwal came there to meet her. She had gone to appear in an exam of MTNL. When she returned,Uma found Aggarwal in her room and both of them had some argument. In a fit of rage,the official alleged,Aggarwal pulled out a revolver from his pocket and opened fire at her before shooting himself in the head. "He first fired two shots. One hit Uma in her neck while the other was lodged in her chest. The man committed suicide by pumping one bullet into his temple," the official said. Aggarwal died on the spot while Uma was rushed to Ganga Ram Hospital,where doctors describe her condition as critical. The official said they were trying to ascertain the sequence of events that led to the incident. A case has been registered at the Rajender Nagar police station,the official said adding the shooting could be the result of a love affair. The official said they were getting in touch with the woman's family. "We are investigating the matter. We want to know how long these people knew each other and the nature of their relationship," the official said.
