A day after the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) raided shelter homes in Ambala district and pointed out various anomalies,the state governments recently constituted Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HCPCR) on Thursday held its first meeting.
The first meeting of the HSCPCR was held under the chairpersonship of Savitri Dhaka. Dr Anita Deswal and Dr Sushma Arya,members of NCPCR,were apprised about the structure and functions of the existing mechanism for child protection services in the state and steps taken by the Women and Child Development Department. They were also briefed about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for Children (POCSO),2012. Jingles on the POCSO Act is being aired on the radio and a state-level workshop will soon be conducted by the Women and Child Development Department to generate awareness about POCSO, said Sumita Misra,Member Secretary of HSCPCR.
Haryana WCD department has already finished an exercise to map the Child Care Institutions (CCI) in the state and the process of their registration is in progress. Of 110 CCIs across the state,83 have been registered.
WCD department officials added that people could register their complaints and contact the officials concerned at hscpcrhry@gmail.com.
