Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday told all secretaries to the central government that a “communication gap” was untenable, and they should consult each other regularly in a bid to “eliminate silos” and speed up the decision making process. The PM made his suggestion to the secretaries during an informal interaction with them, followed by high tea, at Panchvati lawns at his 7, Race Course Road residence. During the the interaction, the Prime Minister described the assembled officers, as one team, and appreciated the “good work” done by the team over the last 10 months. The PM mentioned the success of coal block auctions and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in particular as examples of jobs well done. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog Arvind Panagariya, member of NITI Aayog Bibek Debroy, Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Nripendra Misra, and Additional Principal Secretary to Prime Minister P K Mishra were also present at the interaction.
