The Congress said his tweets suggest a communal bias and asked how such a person can be appointed as Governor.
The Congress said Roy had in the past “justified” the 2002 riots in Gujarat and advocated religious and ethnic cleansing and subjugation of minorities.
“The BJP is politicising even the appointment of Governors. One of the persons appointed to the high office of Governor till very recently had been endorsing the Gujarat riots and advocating ethnic and religious cleansing and subjugation of minorities. To elevate such people to the high office of the Governor, would it do justice to our Constitutional principles and is it Constitutional propriety is a question that the BJP and the Prime Minister need to ponder over and answer,” Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala told The Indian Express.
