The CBI on Monday opposed the petition filed by former CM of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan seeking to quash the case registered against him in the Adarsh Society scam.
Explaining its stance with respect to its jurisdiction to probe the case, the CBI said that it began investigation only after the Defence Ministry forwarded a complaint to it. The CBI said this in an affidavit before the Bombay High Court in relation to the petition filed by Chavan.
The state government has, however, reiterated its stand that the CBI does not have jurisdiction to probe the case. A division bench of Justice P V Hardas and Justice A R Joshi has now sought that all previous orders passed by other benches be placed before it.
The CBI has filed a chargesheet naming the former CM. In his petition,Chavan has questioned the jurisdiction of the CBI to probe the case and said the state government has not given its consent to it to probe the Adarsh controversy. He has claimed that his name has been wrongly dragged into the controversy.
