A BSP MLA and husband of a local corporator were Sunday held hostage by a group of villagers who were protesting against erratic supply of electricity and water in Chandauli district.
Mughalsarai MLA, Babban Singh Chauhan had gone to Ward no. 13 to listen to the grievances of the locals when they held him hostage.
Superintendent of Police, Chandauli, Muniraj G said no FIR has been lodged in this case as the MLA refused to file any complaint. Preventive action would be taken against people who were involved in the act, he said.

When contacted, Chauhan said that on Sunday he got a call from local corporator Murshida Begum’s husband Kayamuddin that residents of Ward no 13 are protesting and demanding to talk to the MLA in person.
When Chauhan reached the spot, locals gheraoed him and started protesting for not addressing their problems of erratic electricity and water supply, and water-logging.
“About 400 people refused to let me and Kayamuddin go. They tied us in two separate chairs with ropes and raised slogans, claiming that they would not allow us to go unless their problems were addressed. I called up officials of the district administration and power department and briefed them how people have detained me. No one turned up”, said the MLA.
After around three hours, a police team from Alinagar police station arrived and assured the villagers that their problems would be addressed within seven days, after which they freed Chauhan and Kayamuddin.
