STPI exports cross Rs 2,000 crore

CHANDIGARH: Software exports of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) Mohali has Rs 2,000 crore. Announcing this here on Sunday,Industries and Commerce Minister Anil Joshi said that during the financial year 2011-12,exports from this region was Rs 1,942.82 crore and in 2012-13 it was Rs 2,143.7 crore. The company created employment opportunity for 30,000 professionals.

Haryana Police to seek Tunda’s custody

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police will move a Delhi court on Monday to seek custody of Laskar-e-Toiba militant Abdul Karim Tunda in connection with his alleged involvement in the 1996 blasts in Sonepat district.

Sonepat police told The Indian Express that they would file an application in the Delhi court seeking Tunda’s transit remand so that he can be brought to Sonepat and interrogated on the blasts case.

Sarpanchs to get tech training in Punjab

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has decided to impart training to all the newly elected sarpanchs,panchs and zila parishad or block samiti members for enabling them to use technology for their day-to-day functioning. Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra said that the training would cover aspects like e-panchayats,online management of accounts,utilization of man and machinery.

Haryana villages to get 24×7 power

Chandigarh: The Haryana government has announced round-the-clock power supply in villages,provided that the villagers adopt the “pillar-box” system,according to which electricity meters are placed outside houses in boxes attached to electricity pillars. “The system is safe and trouble-free as the bare conductor is replaced with insulated cables,” said Kiran Choudhry,Excise,Taxation and Public Health Minister at Pinjokhra village near Bhiwani.

Rewari girl accuses cousin of rape

Chandigarh: The Rewari kidnapping victim has accused her cousin of raping her. In a statement to the police on Sunday,the girl alleged that her cousin kidnapped her with the help of his friends and then took her to Rajasthan where she was allegedly raped. The girl was rescued by a team of Rewari police from Rajasthan on Saturday. The team also arrested the cousin and seven accomplices.

Three held for gangrape in Rohtak

Chandigarh: Haryana police on Sunday arrested three youths on charges of gangraping a girl in Rohtak. Rohtak district police spokesperson Ved Singh said,“We arrested three youths — Sandeep,Rohit and Sandeep — on charges of gangrape. They were produced in court today,from where they were remanded in judicial custody.”

Haryana to map forest land with GPS

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana forest department has started mapping of plantation and forest areas,besides areas damaged by fire by using the Global Positioning System (GPS). The government also plans to use pictures received from satellites to evaluate changes in forest and plantation areas.

Teacher transfers to be finalised by Aug 22

Chandigarh: Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka on Sunday directed all District Education Officers (DEOs) to complete the process of district-level transfers of teachers and other staff by August 22 and send the lists to the headquarters by August 26. The lists of inter-district transfers have already been uploaded on the department website,he said.
