The wait of around 125 students from 16 villages, who swim across the Hiran river to get to their schools at Utavadi in Narmada district, would soon be over. The Roads and Buildings Department is all set to issue e-tender for the construction of the bridge on Friday, after the technical scrutiny of the structural design approved of the bridge on Wednesday. R&B officials are confident that the construction of the bridge will begin in April. The R&B Department had first sent the design to the panel on February 17. This development has paved way for opening tender process for the bridge, which the officials said, would be over within a week. The technical sanction of the design got delayed for over a month as the scrutinising committee returned the original design with suggested changes. According to Executive Engineer H Parmar, the bridge would be 215m long and elevated to ensure that the swelling Hiran does not flow over it. The bridge is likely to cost Rs 8.64 crore. “We have received the technical sanction for the design after a thorough scrutiny. This is the biggest hurdle that has been cleared,” Parmar said.
