Brahmaputra: Gogoi calls for impact study of China’s dams

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi asked the Centre to conduct studies on the probable downstream impact of construction of dams across the Brahmaputra by China. Making a presentation at the eighth review meeting of the Brahmaputra Board, Gogoi said reports about the 510-MW Zangmu hydro-electric power dam by China on the Tsangpo in 2010 had already caused concern in Assam. “As per reports they (China) have sanctioned proposal of three more dams in the middle reaches of the Brahmaputra, causing concern for Assam,” Gogoi said.
