A 16-year-old girl, who was travelling from Ludhiana to Sitamarhi via Muzaffarpur, was allegedly gangraped by five people, including the driver of an additional district magistrate, inside the Muzaffarpur collectorate on Sunday night. Police have arrested one of the five accused.
The train in which the victim was travelling reached Muzaffarpur station behind schedule. So, the girl’s brother-in-law Amritesh, a Sitamarhi resident, sent a youth Vinod to accompany her from there to Sitamarhi.
According to police, the incident took place when the girl, a resident of Kamakhyaguri in West Bengal’s Alipurduar district, alighted from the train and went out of Muzaffarpur station with Vinod to have some food.
Outside the station, the five accused, including a Muzaffarpur ADM’s temporary driver Jitendra Kumar, beat up Vinod and took the girl to the Muzaffarpur collectorate where she was allegedly gangraped. Later, Vinod managed to reach the police station to seek help.
Meanwhile, after the alleged assault the victim came back to the Muzaffarpur station where the GRP spotted her crying.
A railway police official then took her to the Town Police station where a case was registered.
A team led by DSP Anil Kumar arrested one Nikku Kumar, a West Champaran resident, who identified the other four accused – Jitendra Paswan and his friend Gautam Jha along with Vikas Tiwari and Dipak Kumar.
Muzaffarpur City SP R K Bhil said, “We are sending a team to Begusarai in search of Jitendra and are waiting for the medical report of the victim”.
Town police station in-charge Nasim Ahmed, who is also the investigating officer of the case, said the girl had been travelling alone and Vinod was sent to the railway station by her brother-in-law.
