ASI points gun at scribes,suspended

The Punjab Police Monday suspended an assistant sub-inspector after he allegedly pointed his service revolver at some journalists and fired in the air to scare them away.

The Punjab Police Monday suspended an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) after he allegedly pointed his service revolver at some journalists and fired in the air to scare them away.

ASI Kirpal Singh was suspended based on the complaints of some journalists who had gone to the police division four seeking some information pertaining to a case but were allegedly threatened by the ASI in the presence of several other policemen. The journalists said the ASI also manhandled a cameraman,Ravi,in the police station.

“When we went reached there and asked for details,the ASI started abusing us. When we objected to his behaviour,he took out his service revolver and pointed it at us,” some journalists present there alleged,adding that the ASI also fired in the air.

He also snatched the video camera of Rupinder Pal Singh.

ADCP Navjot Singh Mahal said that a case has been registered under sections 382,336,323,506 of IPC against the ASI based on the written complaint of the journalists.
