Over 100 MPs are yet to participate in the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) — a scheme launched by PM Narendra Modi under which each Parliame-ntarian is urged to choose a village from their constituency, ensure its development and turn it into a ‘model village’.
Of the 108 MPs who are yet to choose a village, 55 are from West Bengal.

After the first National-Level Committee meeting of the SAGY was held on Friday, Rural Development Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh urged these MPs to associate with the “mainstream” and adopt a village. The government will remove any bottlenecks in the scheme’s implementation, assured Singh. “Nearly 108 MPs, who have not identified gram panchayats so far, have been asked to name them without delay. Of these MPs, 55 belong to West Bengal,” Singh said.
