The Planning Commission today cleared investment of Rs 35.83 crore for flood protection and training project in Leh district of Jammu & Kashmir. The project,at Igoo Nallah in Leh,is to be executed as per approved outlays in the State plan and is expected to be completed by March 2013,an official release said.
The scheme is estimated to cost Rs 35.83 crore at 2010-11 price level.
The project envisages channelisation of Igoo Nallah for a length of 13.6 km,with construction of gabion wall on both the banks. It also involves construction of 45 check dams across the nallah at suitable intervals.
The nallah is prone to flash floods during heavy rainfall and has changed the original course during past flood jeopardising the banks slopes at and around adjacent soft
areas. Around 3,500 people on about 38.25 hectares of cultivated land and homestead land,are likely to benefit from the scheme,the release said.
