Home minister R R Patil said on Saturday he had asked Mumbai Police Commissioner (CP) Satyapal Singh to probe police officers who booked cartoonist Aseem Trivedi for sedition. Lapses,if any,on the part of law officers who advise police will also be investigated. Singh had already been asked to check if the sedition charge would stick. Sources said police were likely to approach court to drop the charge. Controversial cartoons parodying national symbols and emblems were displayed by Trivedi during anti-corruption protests led by Anna Hazare at MMRDA grounds in BKC in December 2011,after which a complaint was filed against him. He was later booked by BKC police for sedition and under IT and Prevention of Insult to National Honour Acts. Trivedi was arrested last Sunday and released on bail from Arthur Road Jail on Wednesday.
