Naxal encounter: CRPF jawan,two Maoists killed

One CRPF jawan and two Maoists were killed in the encounter between security forces and ultras.

One CRPF jawan and two Maoists were killed today in the ongoing encounter between security forces and ultras in West Singhbhum district,taking the toll to six,police said.

A CRPF personnel and two Maoists were killed in the encounter today,DIG (Kolhan) Navin Kumar Singh,who has been leading the anti-Naxalite operation in Tirilposhi jungle since yesterday,said. One of the rebel’s body has been recovered,he said.

Meanwhile,unconfirmed reports claimed that at least four Maoists has been killed in the encounter.

Yesterday,two policemen and an ultra were killed while an Assistant Commandant of CRPF injured in the fierce gun-battle going on in the jungle.

The encounter took place after the security personnel,comprising para-military forces,anti-Naxal force ‘Cobra’,state armed police and district police,were chasing the rebels following the busting of a training camp in Nurda,Singh said.

He did not rule out the possibility of more casualties from the rebel camp.

Police has also recovered two weapons including a rifle,five hand grenades,among other articles,Singh said adding that the security personnel are still engaged in the operation to demolish the extremists base in the Saranda forest.

The security personnel has also demolished a Maoists training camp at Ratamati in the jungle.

The anti-Naxal operation,which lasted night-long yesterday,was further intensified today to corner the ultras.

A chopper was also pressed in the search operation later in the day.

An injured policeman died in hospital late last night while another was killed on the spot in the encounter yesterday.

The victims were identified as Rajiv Ranjan and Jehangir Khan,both personnel of the state armed police.

An assistant commandant of CRPF,Nitish Kumar,who was also injured in the incident yesterday,is said to be out of danger now.
