Heroin worth Rs 525-cr seized from Pak train

In what is considered to be biggest ever haul of heroin,the customs department on Monday seized 105 kg heroin,packed in four bags) worth more than Rs 525 crore in international market from a Pakistan goods train carrying cement bags.

In what is considered to be biggest ever haul of heroin,the customs department on Monday seized 105 kg heroin,packed in four bags) worth more than Rs 525 crore in international market from a Pakistan goods train carrying cement bags. The customs department also recovered 500 cartridges from the bogey (No. 66938).

The seizure comes days after the visit of Pakistan Customs Collector Fazal Yazdani Khan on October 4 when he had claimed that Pakistan had taken stringent measures to check smuggling of heroin through cement bags.

Deputy Commissioner Customs at Amritsar Rail Cargo Vijay Bahadur Singh said,“The heroin was found packed in four bags,placed among 488 cement bags of Elephant brand. “The cartridges are of a Magnum Revolver and are of .397 bore,a size which had been unheard of so far”.

Stating that consignment belonged to Mohan Communications,an Amritsar-based firm,Singh questioned the Railway authorities saying that metal and paper seals by Pakistan on both sides of the bogey were found to be “intact” by Customs officials at Attari,but were found broken at Amritsar Rail Cargo. “An attempt was made to take away the consignment.”

However,Station Superintendent at Attari,Shashi Kant Madaan,said that the Customs officials did not inform him about the broken seal.

Meanwhile,BSF DIG,RPS Jaswal,said that in monetary terms the seizure was biggest so far.
