EVEN AS the Haryana Assembly passed the Bill to provide reservation benefits to Jats and five other communities on Tuesday, the party’s Lok Sabha member, Raj Kumar Saini, said he would challenge the decision in court.

“We will first knock on the doors of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and, if needed, will approach the Supreme Court thereafter,” Saini told The Indian Express. He said backward castes members would also stage demonstrations across the state to protest against the “encroachment” of their rights.

“We had thought that this being a non-Jat government, will do justice to us, but unfortunately, our hopes have been dashed,” said Saini. “This is a surrender by the Haryana government,” he added. He said the government had given in due to the violence which marked the Jat agitation and conceded to “the most unreasonable demand”.
