UP MP’s arrest for daughter-in-law’s death may affect BSP prospects in Punjab

Kashyap along with his wife and son have been arrested in connection with the death of his daughter-in-law Himanshi Kashyap due to dowry harassment on Wednesday. The arrest of Kashyap has come as a setback for BSP, which had become politically active in Punjab’s Doaba region after its party supremo Mayawati’s rally in March. Recently, Mayawati’s rally in the region had succeded in mobilising the cadre in the area to a certain extent. The party was also supposed to for a panel of proposed candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections. According to party sources, Kashyap’s arrest has come as a big shock to the party workers.

“There is sadness in the party after Kashyap’s arrest as he has been in-charge of Punjab’s political affairs and was quite active in the area,” said a party leader.
