A passenger detained from a Dubai to Kozhikode Indigo flight — that had to make an emergency landing in Mumbai owing to his unruly behaviour — was admitted to Cooper Hospital in Juhu on Thursday. The person reportedly turned violent after being handed over to the Sahar police station in the evening, the police said. No case was filed against him. In a statement to The Indian Express, senior police inspector of Sahar police station Baburao Mukhedkar said, “The passenger was questioned by the airport authorities in the day and brought to Sahar police station by 7.30 pm. After reaching here, he turned violent and so he was admitted to Cooper Hospital for treatment. No case has been filed against him as we received no complaint from the airport or the airlines.” The flight had to make an emergency landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 9.15 am after the the crew informed Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Central Industrial Security Force (CSIF) authorities about trouble in the aircraft due to unruly behavior of the passenger. In a statement, IndiGo airlines has confirmed the diversion of the flight (Dubai-Kozhikode) to Mumbai in the morning. “A little before landing, a passenger seated on 5D suddenly started misbehaving with the crew. He jumped on the forward cart (which is used for food and onboard merchandise) and sat on it. The crew immediately informed the captain-in-command and the lead crew. The crew politely requested the passenger (who was accompanied by his brother) to step down from the cart and he obliged. After stepping down from the cart, the passenger suddenly got violent and started physically abusing a co-passenger,” IndiGo said. “Taking precautionary measure, the captain immediately informed the ATC and the ground security staff about the situation on board. The flight made a precautionary landing at Mumbai airport where this passenger was handed over to the CISF for further investigations. The matter is now with the local authorities,” the airline added. Though one of the flight crew members alleged that the held passenger had raised pro-ISIS slogans, airport police officials denied the claim. After offloading the two, the flight took off to its scheduled destination at 10.50 am.
