As part of preparations for the 2017 assembly elections, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Badal held one-on-one meetings with all MLAs of the ruling combine, in Jalandhar on Thursday.
The deputy CM was in the city to distribute the state-level enhanced pension but he spent the rest of the day in the city preparing his party’s strategy for the next elections.
Sukhbir reportedly urged the MLAs to focus on development and queried them on their priorities for their respective constituencies and summoned officials of various departments including Jalandhar Municipal Corporation and the
Jalandhar Improvement Trust and ordered them to speed up all the development work.
Sources said the MLAs sought more funds for development and were promised around Rs 400 crore before the elections.
They added that the deputy CM promised Rs 25 to Rs 30 crore for every constituency, barring that of BJP MLA Manoranjan Kalia, who represents Jalandhar Central.
